The board that answered first

There is a particular quiet after a swap you did not fully understand. The crystals fall, a second match appears where you had budgeted none, and for a second the ice seems to have had the idea before you did. Ice Crush is full of that courtesy. It is also full of the opposite: a tidy plan that the board declines without comment.

I have started trusting the decline. If a corner looks finished and the move counter still looks kind, the level is hiding a bunny or a bear behind the kindness. The cascade that arrives uninvited is usually the true map. The cascade you forced is often just noise with better lighting.

On the spiral boards this is sharper. The eye wants the outside ring, because it reads like a path. The useful trouble sits nearer the middle, where a snow-monster tile has been pretending to be decoration. Answer the middle. Let the ring happen as a consequence. The score will look after itself if the shape is right.

That is the whole dispatch. When the board speaks first, listen. When it goes mute, you are solving the wrong sentence.

Raising a snowman between blizzards

Most puzzles introduce a mascot and then forget the introduction. Ice Crush asks you to adopt a snowman and raise them, which sounds like a menu flourish until you notice you are checking in the way you check a plant on the windowsill. Not every round. Often enough that the absence would show.

Gear is the visible part. Coins and snowballs gathered while matching turn into equipment, and equipment changes what the next proud level can do to your evening. The invisible part is tempo. A snowman gives the long run of 800-plus levels a household. Themed stretches change the wallpaper. The companion is how you know it is still your winter.

I lost a spiral on purpose once, just to come back with a booster that had finished charging and a scarf of new gear. The level had not become easier in the way a hint makes a crossword easier. It had become accompanied. That is a different gift, and it is the one this puzzle understands.

Coconuts on the ridge

Puzzle stops scattered along a bright icy path

Somebody put coconuts in the snow and declined to explain. I respect it. Ice Crush is a frozen adventure that keeps a warm object in its pocket: fruit, a silly prop, a festive coat on a figure who should be shivering. The matching rules do not change when the joke arrives. Your eye does.

Themed levels are the delivery system. A ridge, a party of elves, a path of stops under open sky — same swap, different weather. Collect the coconut when the board offers a breath. Then go back to the crystals. The fruit is not a riddle. It is a reminder that this winter is authored by someone with a crooked smile, and that the next mode will probably smile crooked in a new direction.

If you only grind the brightest gems, you will clear levels and miss the place. The place is the point. Crystals are how you walk through it.

The next evening is already on the ice.
